Although the NRI recorded very little movement for the week, there was infact considerable market activity. Micron became the major focus for buyers with most interest in the finer types, which recorded general price rises of 10-40 cents. The medium to broader microns lacked the same support with general falls of 20-30 cents when compared to the previous sale. The widening micron differential has resulted in a 600 cent price difference between 18.0 and 21.0 microns (double the 10 year average).
Skirtings followed a similar path to the fleece, the finer the micron the greater the price rise, generally between 30 and 60 cents. The lower VM skirtings performed the best as buyers looked for fleece substitutes.
Oddments also came under intense buying pressure, and again it was the finer types which enjoyed the greatest increases. With the focus on micron, it is not surprising that the crossbred sector struggled and continued its downward trend, all types and descriptions
generally fell 5 – 25 cents, with the better prepared lines finding the most support.
