Dear Editor,
I agree with the comments of Bill Barwood. (Letters Issue 274) There has been not been a republic not born under the force of arms.
How arrogant of us to imagine it can be done simply by changing laws and replacing our Constitution with an act of parliament and stroke of a pen.
The wrong question was asked in the referendum. We should have been asked “Do you want a republic?”, not what type would be foisted on us. If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it.
