Over 70 people attended the “The History and Character of Belmore / Moorbel” book launch last Saturday with copies going out the door. The joyous occasion held at the Moorbel Community Hall, with master-of-ceremonies Warwick Bowd passing the book to long time resident Dick Marsh, who in turn passed it to former Postmaster Gwen Landon, thence to author Debbie Rutter and at last the latest book on Canowindra district local histories was launched!
All present on the day then enjoyed a delightful morning tea provided by Moorbel Hall community group. Historical Society President
Ross Cleary said, “The importance of these local histories is keeping them alive and celebrating the memories and stories of our past, for both “old” and “new” residents.” It would be easy today to see Moorbel as simply a few houses on the outskirts of Canowindra and not be aware of the thriving and independent settlement it once was, with its own businesses, schools and churches.
Copies of the book are available at Canowindra Newsagency and Virginia Cullane Books. Canowindra Historical Society congratulates Deb Rutter on producing such an informative book, and completing another piece in the patchwork of our local histories.
