Matt Rice has started the 2020 Woodchopping season with back to back wins in the Standing Block.
The Rice family travelled to Sawtell on New Year’s Day and competed at the Sawtell Fun Day Carnival. Lachlan Rice winning the boys chop and his brother Alex coming second. Father Matt winning the Standing Block Handicap Final of $500, and the Butchers Block Relay with mate Dan Armitage from Dubbo.
The Rice family and ex local Greg Guihot spent Australia Day Woodchopping at the Wallerawang celebrations. The boys placed again winning money and Matt finished with two third places and won the Standing Block Final.
“Both Lachy and Alex (the Axe) chopped 4 blocks each for the day which is a massive effort for young fellas, we all have a number of blisters on our hands. It’s amazing how sore you are the next day and how hungry you get,“ said Matt.
