Canowindra’s Marcus Wythes has further secured his place in the future of the Australian beef cattle industry, adding to his growing list of accolades by being awarded Grand Champion School Parader at the Royal Queensland Show (Ekka) in Brisbane earlier this week.
The school cattle paraders section at Ekka is hotly contested, and Marcus was successful over approximately 250 other school students from across various states of Australia to take out the top prize.
Marcus is the son of Oliver and Kassandra Wythes, and is a year 10 student at Scots All Saints College in Bathurst. He was one of six students from the school who competed at Ekka under the guidance of Director of Agricultural Studies and Equestrian Mrs Libby Dawes.
Marcus’ achievements this year in cattle paraders competition are extensive. Last month Marcus was named reserve champion intermediate parader at the 2024 Harris Farm Markets National Hereford Youth Expo. Earlier this year he won his heat in the beef cattle paraders’ section at the Sydney Royal Easter Show, making it through to the NSW State Final of the competition.
Only two weeks ago, Marcus was named runner-up best mentor cattle team member at the Scots All Saints College annual cattle team dinner and awards night.
Marcus will be competing at the National All Breeds Junior Heifer Show in Blayney on 6th-8th September, before heading off to the 2024 Shorthorn Youth Expo in Dubbo on 3rd-6th Ocotber and the 2024 Upper Hunter Beef Bonanza in Scone on 25th27th October. We wish Marcus the best of luck at these upcoming competitions!
