On Tuesday Andrew Gee, Member for Orange, presented the Canowindra Rugby League Club with a cheque for $13,120 at the Tom Clyburn Oval. The money is part of a grant under the NSW Government Footy Facilities Fund and will go towards concrete flooring for the canteen areas, a switchbox for the lights and a new electronic scoreboard. Terry Quinn, Chief Executive Officer of Country Rugby League, was also present and said, “Out of 13 grants approved 11 were country. Canowindra’s a bigger town and has the potential to be the centre for lots of events.” Ken Wilson, President of Canowindra League Club was excited at the new opportunity, “it’ll improve enjoyment and tidiness; it’s a good step forward. Once we get a switchboard we won’t have to go round the dressing sheds and poke our hands in the cobwebs to turn the lights on!” he joked.
Andrew Gee was also pleased at our town’s development. “Sporting clubs are a vital part of the fabric of country communities. This doesn’t only support the Tigers but the whole community including the Balloon Glow and school projects. Given the importance of this facility it’s a wonderful grant and hopefully there will be more to come. I congratulate the Club on making their application and for their hard work.” As Mr Gee said, this grant will make a fantastic improvement to our grounds for the Tigers and all other sporting teams that play on it… and we can’t wait to see the scoreboard.
