Local Land Services are currently offering fully subsidised fodder testing to landholders within the Central Tablelands region. There is varying quality of feeds that farmers currently have access to from around the region and the state. Whilst securing feed is one part of the equation, knowing the quality of the feed is another matter.
Knowing the nutritional value of fodder allows you to make informed decisions not only for the amount of fodder you need to feed but allows you to easily calculate if it is suitable for the class of livestock you are feeding and required production goals.
NSW DPI’s drought and supplementary feed calculator is a desktop or mobile app. It is a tool to assist producers in developing feed rations as well as rations for dry periods when supplementary feeding is required.
LLS staff can assist you through the process of testing fodder, understanding the results and providing advice based on feed you have on hand or feed you are looking to bring on farm.
