Sixty people of all ages walked, cycled, hopped, skipped and jumped to the fitness path on Sunday to attend its official opening. Julie Middleton, a member of the working party behind the path, gave a short speech describing the history of the path and how funding had been raised by the Canowindra community through donations and fundraising. “I’d also like to thank the
working party members; Marg and Rob Morris, Tracy Lamb, Graham Rice, David Francis, Kath Balcombe, Iana Brown, Bron Newman and Lorrae Barker” Julie said.
Canowindra Citizen of the Year, Owen McLaughlan and Young Citizen of the Year, Matt Harrison then cut the green ribbon strung across the path and declared the fitness path officially open! All attendees then walked around the fitness path before gathering in the middle for an overhead photo. “After six years of work I am thrilled to have reached this stage and have the path declared ‘officially opened’” said Julie; “I believe the path and exercise sites are testament to what a small town can achieve and the generous nature and hard work of not only our working party but many community members who got behind the project wholeheartedly.”
Walkers and cyclists were then treated to a healthy fruit and water snack at the amenities block. It was wonderful to see people of all ages, from toddlers to octogenarians, enjoying the path and getting some exercise so don’t be a witness, get into fitness and make use of our fantastic fitness path.
