First Grade: Canowindra vs. Burrangong, Sunday the 29th

3 July, 2014 By Canowindra Phoenix Editor

The weather conditions were freezing, with a top of 4 degrees and an extremely wet field, but Canowindra were able to beat the Burrangong Bears 10-8.

The majority of the first half was spent in Burrangong’s territory as Canowindra were able to get themselves in best position to score. Luckily in the last few minutes of the first half Canowindra’s hooker Brodie Friend was able to slip straight through the Bears and ground the first try for the Tigers leaving a halftime time score of 4 – 0

The intensity grew stronger as the Bears also scored a try in the first few minutes of the second half, bringing the score to 4 all. At the half way line Brendan Traves passed a great ball to Aaron Earsman as he ran for his life and slid straight under the posts. The Canowindra supporters were ecstatic as the score then became 10 – 4. In the last few seconds of the game Burrangong pushed themselves through the try line and brought the score to 10 – 8. The buzzer rang as the Bears’ kicker set himself up to make the conversion but the crowd roared as he missed the goal. This week’s Player’s Player was awarded to Aaron Earsman for his fantastic game. Aaron is always pushing himself and the team to attack through any defence and his determination at Burrangong is what helped the boys make their win.
