Jackie and Geoff Yeo, the owners and restorers of Finn’s Store in Gaskill Street are celebrating five years of successful business since they reopened the doors of the iconic building. “Six years ago the Central West was gripped in drought,” said Geoff, “Canowindra was struggling and the main street was almost
desolate.”
Geoff and Jackie knew that drought doesn’t last forever, and in spite of the lack of optimism around the area at the time, they could see the enormous potential of the region, the town, the bendy main street and the Finn’s
building.
By purchasing and restoring the old building and opening a business that incorporates wine, food, coffee, art, clothing, jewellery, furniture and giftware, their concept has helped breathe life back into the town. Jackie and Geoff have seen a definite increase in tourism and visitors to Canowindra and their shop since it opened five years ago, and other businesses have since followed suit
in restoring their buildings.
“Seeing other businesses step up and restore their buildings reinforces and validates the vision we saw for the town,” Geoff said. Jackie and Geoff said they are very thankful for the wonderful support they get from a core group of locals who have become strong and valued friends.
“Their support has made it worthwhile when the going was tough and the work load was challenging.”
Get down to Finn’s Store and help Geoff and Jackie celebrate their milestone. If you are yet to venture in, don’t be shy. It’s a store that has something for everyone.
