With recent storms causing havoc throughout our region, Essential Energy is reminding us all to be prepared for unexpected power supply interruptions in the event of wild weather and other natural disasters. Essential Energy manages the poles and wires across 95 percent of New South Wales and has crews ready to respond to unplanned supply disruptions 24 hours a day, seven days a week.
South Eastern Regional Manager, Phillip Green, said that while the overhead electricity network is usually strong and reliable, it is also at the mercy of the weather.
In the event of an unplanned supply interruption, Essential Energy will dispatch staff immediately to try and restore power- and will bring in extra crews when severe rains, winds, hail and lightning, flash flooding or bushfires cause extensive network damage” he said.
“We are asking our customers to report any fallen or low hanging power lines or any damage to infrastructure on our supply interruptions line- 13 20 80. Remember to stay at least eight metres away from fallen power lines and any objects that may be touching it. Treat ground wires and lines as live and dangerous and always use extreme caution when clearing up after a storm as damaged lines may be hidden by the debris” he continued. In the event of a storm damaging the network, Essential Energy will concentrate on repairing and re-energising major power lines first, restoring electricity to the majority of customers, before focussing on individual faults such as broken house service lines.
