Emily Breaks The 50m Mark

19 March, 2025 By Canowindra Phoenix Editor

Emily Thomas and coach, Ernie Shankleton.

Emily Thomas is having an exceptional year, making waves in the hammer throw scene.

She recently set a personal best of 51.36m, breaking the 50m mark for the first time at the NSW State U20’s Championships.

Last Thursday, she took home the Gold Medal at Sydney Olympic Park, with two of her six throws surpassing the 50m mark and beating her competition by an impressive 9 meters.

Not resting on her success, Emily backed up her performance by competing at the Canberra Summer Series on Friday, following her coach Ernie Shankelton’s plan to prepare her for the upcoming challenge of competing in both the U20’s and Open Championships in Perth next month. Once again, she broke the 50m mark.

Despite her busy schedule, Emily’s determination has clearly paid off, claiming Gold at the NSW Country Championships, ACT State Championships, and now the NSW U20’s State Championships. Her hard work and focus continue to shine through, and this Friday, she will travel back to Sydney to compete in the NSW Open Championships, aiming to add another triumph to her already impressive year.
