Dr Nick Awarded NSW Rural Generalist Of The Year

16 September, 2026 By Canowindra Phoenix Editor

Dr Nicholas O’Ryan in his Blatchford St surgery.

It will come as no surprise to the patients of Dr Nicholas O’Ryan that he has been named NSW Rural Generalist of the Year at the 2026 Australian College of Rural and Remote Medicine (ACRRM) Excellence Awards – recognising remarkable leadership, clinical excellence, teaching and supervision, innovation, and lasting community impact.

Awarded to doctors who demonstrate excellence in best-practice care across rural, remote, and First Nations communities, the winning rural generalists bring a broad scope of skills, deep commitment to community-centred care, and a strong understanding of the unique challenges of rural health.

Rural communities like Canowindra thrive because of people like Dr Nick, who go above and beyond for their patients and communities, improving both access and outcomes, and lifting the standard of care across Australia.

All state recipients go into the running for the national award, to be presented at the Rural Medicine Australia (RMA) Conference in Adelaide on 23 October, where the very best of rural and remote medicine will be celebrated on the national stage.

On behlaf of the entire community, we congratulate Dr Nick on this wonderful achievement and thank him for 40 years of compassionate care and dedicated service to Canowindra.
