About 70 of Doris “Dot” Pfeiffer’s friends and family gathered at Morris Park on Saturday 3 October to celebrate her 80th birthday, a milestone event. While Dot knew something was in the air, her husband Les was able to gather extended family, friends from all walks of life, neighbours past and present and fellow workers from Canowindra Cornerstone Community for a surprise BBQ in the park.
“I arranged it all about 5 months ago, but she didn’t hear a word,” said Les. It was quite a surprise when Les and Dot’s five daughters arrived from out of town to take Dot out for a birthday cuppa. The biggest surprise of all came with the arrival of Jolene from South Africa, a Rotary Exchange student who Dot and Les hosted in 1977.
On Sunday, immediate family gathered at Canowindra Hotel for a tasty meal. Anecdotes of “Nanna” were shared before the cake was cut and Dot was presented with a photobook covering 79+ years of her life. Dot said she hopes there will be no more surprises for a while.
