Dit Agtech National All Breeds Junior Heifer Show

11 September, 2024 By Canowindra Phoenix Editor

L-R Bede McDonald, Grace Moore, Poppy Starr, Jack Smyth, Ivy McDonald and Florence McDonald were all supplied cattle for the National All Breeds Junior Heifer Show by Cargo based Red Angus stud Goondoola Livestock.

Canowindra was well represented last weekend at the 2024 DIT AgTech National All Breeds Junior Heifer Show in Blayney by Marcus and Fraser Wythes, Jack Smyth, Poppy Starr and Florence, Ivy and Bede McDonald. These young cattlemen and women had a great time over the three day event and achieved some fantastic results including:

• Marcus Wythes: First place Class 16 Intermediate Parader, Champion Intermediate Parader and highly commended Herdsman Award.

• Jack Smyth: Second place Class 16 Intermediate Parader and Champion Intermediate Herdsman.

• Poppy Starr: First place Class 20 Senior Parader and Reserve Champion Senior Parader.

• Bede McDonald: Fourth place Pee Wee Junior Judge.

• Florence McDonald: Fifth place Class 7 Junior Parader.

The Powe family, from Cargo based Red Angus stud Goondoola Livestock, generously prepared and supplied six heifers for Bede, Ivy and Florence McDonald, Poppy Starr and Jack Smyth to use at the show.

Sue and Hannah Powe were judges at the event and Goondoola Livestock also donated a heifer for the the 2024 NABJHS Heifer Lottery and Silent Auction, in which the winner selected one of eight stud heifers to take home. The lottery raised $51,985 which will allow organisers to continue to deliver the show and subsidise the kids involvement in future years.
