Last time we talked about physical inactivity and how it is a major risk factor for nearly all chronic health problems we face today and that exercise is a requirement to live a healthy & happy life.
Did you know that in 1998, heart disease killed 949 619 people in the US?
Brisk walking for only 30 minutes 5 times a week would have prevented 284 886 of these deaths. Amazing!
30 minutes equates to 2% of your day. 2%! No matter how busy you are, you can spare 30 minutes a day for your health. This also reflects current guidelines and is a great place to start. Imagine how many people could be saved for 30 minutes of moderate-intense exercise?!
Studies show that intense interval training has a much more profound effect on your health and this really should be our goal. Great news is there are fantastic local exercise programs available:
- Angela Ellis is running group exercise workouts called ‘bootcamp’.
- Not ready for a group or want one on one attention? Madi Vitnell is taking on clients for personal training.
- Also I am running a local health initiative focused on exercise in light of this recent column and invite everyone to come along. There will be information on how to make successful changes to improve you & your family’s health. Light refreshments will be provided.
