A brave crowd of about 60 people were at the opening night of the Canowindra Community Players performance of “My Life – A Double Take” at Canowindra Services Club on Friday night.
“You never know what you’re going to get on opening night,” said Anthony Hamer, who wrote the play. “The crowd were very watchful and contemplative to start off with. The Saturday night crowd were involved and vocal, which we like.”
There are 17 pieces of music throughout the play and all characters sing at one point in an overall performance that Anthony hopes local people can identify with. Comic elements and eclectic music accompany a thoughtful storyline which makes the audience think.
“We are doing it for the people. We want to get people out and about; to engage the community in something different,” said Anthony.
A different community group waits tables each night to receive a donation and all money raised by the Sunday Matinee goes towards Give Me 5 For Kids to help fund the Orange Hospital Children’s Ward.
Tickets are $35 at Saffi and include a main meal and desert. Sunday Matinee tickets are $10. The play well finish this weekend.
