On Saturday 13th the first round of the Doug Wright Shield 20/20 took place with Canowindra A grade taking on Aussie Hotel. Aussie Hotel won the toss and sent Canowindra in to bat with Pete Guthrie and Ben Schaefer . Schaefer scored 20 from the first over, with Pete Guthrie out for 7. Next up was 20/20 specialist JJ with a score of 1-33 . JJ and Schaefer put on a strong partnership of 54 till JJ fell for 18, putting Canowindra in a strong position. Next to fall was Schaefer. Canowindra collapsed, and then some good bowling and fielding from Aussie Hotel saw Canowindra’s last 7 wickets fall for only 28 runs, Canowindra ending with a score of 108. In the first over, Canowindra’s skipper showed Aussie Hotel that it was going to be hard to score runs, bowling a maiden in his first and second overs. Pete Guthrie backed him up, grabbing two wickets in his second over, with a run out from young gun Tim Starr . Guthrie then took another two wickets. With another run out in between, Aussie Hotel were now 6-23, and then in Guthrie’s final over he got another wicket . Aussie Hotel scraped together another 27 runs before being bowled out in the 15th over for 55. Young Tim Starr bowled very well and was unlucky not to get a wicket . Canowindra’s next game is against Bowling Club on the 20th.
