Cowra will be hosting their very own Speech, Language and Literacy Summit on Tuesday 28th February at the Cowra Civic Centre. The two part presentation highlights why speech, language and reading is so important for young children to allow them to succeed in life. The talk will discuss how educators, carers and families can promote speech, language and reading development from birth to primary school years.
The evening will be kicked off with a wel- come at 6.30pm, followed by two keynote speakers both renowned in their field will both give a talk for about 45 minutes on their own experiences and how they can help you and your child.
Dr Sarah McDough is the first speaker and her expertise is with early reading and prevention of reading difficulties. Sarah is a lecturer in Inclusive Education at Charles Sturt University and has vast educational experience as a teacher, researcher and consultant. Sarah’s main focus is working with schools across the region to support school wide implementation of effective reading practices.
Professor Sharynne McLeod who is a Professor at Charles Sturt University is the sec- ond speaker for the night. She is an elected Fellow of the American Speech Language Hearing association and a Life Member of Speech Pathology Australia. She is co- chair of the International expert Panel on Multilingual Children’s Speech and has co- authored 10 books and over 150 journal articles and book chapters on children’s speech and language.
The floor will then be opened up for any questions at 8.30pm to allow the audience to ask questions and to gain more clarifica- tion about the session. There will also be Allied Health Stalls available from 8.30pm- 9pm.
