Traditionally speaking, when we talk about mental health and checking in with ourselves most people can say that at times it’s not really a priority. With the fast pace of life, work and family we get caught in the uphill race of life.
Men especially fall into this trap of not opening about how they are feeling, their struggles with mental health or debriefing about what’s really going on. Lifeline has started an initiative called the “Cowra Growth Rooms” which are a community lead program supported by LifeLine Central West.
Supported by trained members of our local community, The Growth Rooms offer a free and confidential space for blokes to support other blokes through the challenges of life. It is a chance to have a cuppa, a yarn, blow off some steam, and check in with other fellas. The Growth room is a chance to work towards better mental health and improved quality of life.
“Life Line Central West has been working closely with Cowra community members and organisations to better address the challenges of mental health and effective support for our men. With what we know from both the feedback on the ground and the national databases, there is an ever growing need to help men speak up and get help. I am proud to be a part of that process,” said Max Fenton, Community Engagement and Training Officer Lifeline Central West.
Operating on the fourth Thursday of each month at 6pm, the group will get together at the Connections Centre at 28b Kendal St, Cowra between Subway and Dominos. The men’s only room is a confidential place for guys to listen, speak and support one another.
On Friday, 14th of July at 10:30am there will be an information session at the Nguluway Room at the Connections Centre. The information session is an opportunity to find out more about how the Growth Rooms work and meet some of the facilitators.
