Canowindra Craft and Hobbies have received a $3,000 grant from Newcrest Mining’s Cadia Valley Operations, as part of its COVID-19 Community Support Fund.
Trading for more than 30 years, The Canowindra Craft and Hobbies Store had to temporarily close its doors on 27th March 2020 and trade by appointment only due to the COVID-19 pandemic, as most of its volunteer members are aged 70 years or older.
Canowindra Craft and Hobbies is a not- for-profit organisation which sells home-made gifts and crafts, as well as wool and haberdashery that is not available at other shops in Canowindra.
With expenses still to pay including rent, electricity and insurance, Canowindra Craft and Hobbies Secretary and Treasurer, Beverley Wilson said they turned to Cadia’s Community Support Fund for assistance.
“Cadia’s donation has allowed us to continue paying our bills during this uncertain time, so that we can return to normal trading again soon,” said Mrs Wilson.
“The application process was very simple and we thank Cadia for the funding,” continued Mrs Wilson.
“We would like to also thank those in the local community who supported us during the closure by still purchasing craft and haberdashery supplies here in Canowindra, it is great to see locals supporting locals,” said President of Canowindra Craft and Hobbies, Janeen Wright.
The Store is now open Tuesday through until Saturday from 10am to 2pm with COVID safe procedures in place.
