On 28 June 2022, Canowindra Soldiers Memorial Hospital will celebrate 100 years of operations, a milestone which highlights the hospital’s proud history of providing care and support to the community.
Janice Rumph, Canowindra Soldiers Memorial Hospital Health Service Manager, is delighted to announce that Western NSW Local Health District (WNSWLHD) will be hosting two centenary celebrations. On Tuesday 28 June 2022, WNSWLHD will host a morning tea at the hospital grounds. This is a free event which will include presentations from key groups and the opportunity to learn more about the history of the facility.
On Saturday 2 July 2022, WNSWLHD will also host a Centenary Dinner Dance Celebration at the Canowindra Services and Citizens Club, including a three-course dinner and live entertainment from local band ‘Trouble With Johnny’. The Centenary Dinner Dance Celebration is a ticketed event, with all ticket proceeds going to Canowindra Soldiers Memorial Hospital.
“We are so excited to be able to join our wonderful community to celebrate the hospital’s centenary anniversary,” Ms Rumph said.
“It is incredible to think that more than 100 years ago the community and Government worked together to provide funds to construct the hospital, with the World War One memorial tower and honour boards in the foyer,” continued Ms Rumph.
“We are honouring the history of the hospital by also replicating the format that was used to celebrate the original opening of the hospital, which included an afternoon tea and a very well-attended Grand Ball on 28 June, 1922. The town really came of age in the 1920s and here we are, 100 years later. Although we’re in a different world, we as a community are as strong as ever,” said Ms Rumph.
“This is a huge event for Canowindra and we hope everyone will be able to join us for either the Morning Tea, the Dinner Dance Celebration or both.”
The hospital continues to work closely with many community organisations such as the Health Council, United Hospital Auxiliary, Historical Society and RSL Sub Branch.
Representatives from all these groups are assisting to plan the event celebrations, through a Centenary Committee. Tickets to the Centenary Dinner Dance Celebration which will be held on Saturday 2nd July can be purchased online at https://bit.ly/CanowindraHospitalCentenary or from the Canowindra Community Health Centre from Monday to Friday between the hours of 9am-1pm and 2pm-4pm, tickets are $70pp.
