The 2022 NSWLGA Destination & Visitor Economy Conference took place from 17th -19th May 2022 and was co-hosted byBlayney Shire Council, Cabonne Council,and Orange City Council.
The conference was open to Mayors, Councillors and council staff working in Economic Development, Tourism or Events. In attendance were also representatives from NSWLGA, Destination NSW and Tourism Australia.
Cabonne Council Mayor, Kevin Beatty said visitation was now worth more than $377 million annually to the Blayney/Cabonne/Orange region.
“The hospitality (accommodation and food services) sector now makes up between 6 and 7 percent of the regional workforce. It is important that all businesses across our region understand their role in supporting tourism – an important pillar in boosting our economy.
This conference is an opportunity to make sure we are at the forefront of change and opportunity,” Cr Beatty said.
The talks covered topics ranging from EV networks, destination marketing, art and heritage, and the success story of Orange360 and the 3 councils (Orange, Blayney and Cabonne).The NSW Top Tourism Town Awards were awarded with Carcoar (in Blayney Shire) taking home the Top Tiny Town award. Berry and Mudgee were awarded Top Small Town and Top Tourism Town respectively. Orange and Molong were also finalists.
The conference dinner, organised by Cabonne Council, was held at the Australian National Field Day Site and was titled Celebrate 360. The event highlighted local producers, businesses and entertainers. It even included a fireworks show and hot air balloon display.
