The Health Service wishes to clarify for the public the purpose and use of the ultrasound machine, which will be purchased by funds raised by the community for use at The Canowindra Soldiers Memorial Hospital. This machine will only be available at the hospital. Nursing and medical staff will be able to use the point of care ultrasound for urgent patient assessment, such as bladder scanning to detect urine retention and location of veins during cannulation.
The machine is not able to be used for diagnostic purposes at Canowindra Hospital. Patients will still be required to access formal diagnostic ultrasound services in Cowra or Orange. The hospital is grateful for the community of Canowindra, along with the Hospital Auxiliary, Lions Club and Cabonne Shire Council and everyone else who supported the initiative. The hospital is always grateful for the support shown by the Auxiliary and we encourage the people of Canowindra to continue to support the Auxiliary in its work to improve hospital services. The hospital is now in the process of ordering the machine.
