The Canowindra High School open girl’s netball team travelled to Orange last Thursday to play in the western region knockout gala day. Having lost several stalwarts from the team at the end of last year, it was time to bring in some new blood.
The CHS girls had a strong win against Kelso to start and followed with convincing victories over Parkes and Oberon. After six games the team finished third in their pool and went on to place sixth out of 14 teams on the day. It was a great effort for such a young team from a small school competing against significantly larger schools with a great deal more experience.
Throughout the day the year 12 students Hayley, Jenny and Scout were inspirational, leading the way with determined play, great sportsmanship and supporting the younger students throughout. With the rest of the team able to complete again next year, the future is looking bright.
