For over 16 years, the Phoenix has been a Thursday staple for the Canowindra community, and today we celebrate our 800th issue! The Canowindra Phoenix has stood with the community through tough times of drought, the COVID pandemic, the more recent floods, and also celebrated the happy times and achievements.
We’ve done our best to inspire you with all the positive and uplifting stories in our community, informed you about what is happening, entertained you with some lighter news and hopefully educated you on some issues.
From humble beginnings as a two page community newsletter, the Phoenix slowly grew over the years until transformed to it’s current newspaper format in 2013 by Cheryl Newsom. Her daughter Sarah Maynard took over when Cheryl retired in January 2017, before passing ownership to Joshua Matic in October 2019. Deb Clarke of Roundbox Media took over sole ownership of the paper in September 2023, and today we are part of the Phoenix Group of Newspapers.
In a time when newspapers are either closing down or cutting down drastically, we’ve had nothing but support and encouragement from our loyal readers, contributors and advertisers.
Thank you to everyone who picks up a copy every week, reads us online, or follows us on Facebook. We really appreciate all your contributions of stories, photos, news tips, thumbs, letters and comments. A huge thank you to our advertisers for your ongoing support. It is wonderful to be part of this community and to share in the stories that spread kindness.
