Cowra Agricultural Research and Advisory Station (CARAS) is opening its gates to the public on Thursday, 28th September for a special day of celebration and discovery as it commemorates over 120 years of primary industries research.
“We encourage everyone to attend this special event, because it’s a fantastic opportunity to learn about the latest developments in agriculture and explore the beauty of our station,” CARAS Institute Director Dr Gordon Refshauge said.
The day begins with a special sunrise walk and history talk. Afterwards, patrons can enjoy a complimentary bacon and egg roll prepared by DPI staff and a coffee which will be available for purchase. From 8:30am to 1:30pm, the station will then open for general admission, with numerous attractions to explore.
“Visitors can wander through the Research Station, engage with informative displays, and have discussions with DPI staff regarding various programs and research initiatives, including the Sheep and Goat eID implementation,” Dr Refshauge said.
Crop walk and talk sessions will feature perennial wheat and clover varieties for honey production, as well as a honey tasting session, while also experiencing the ‘paddock to plate’ journey with bread and beer made from the Station’s perennial cereal crops.
