Tommy Jeffs with Channel 9’s Amy Clements outside Montrose House in Gaskill St, Canowindra.
Everyone in Canowindra knows Tommy Jeffs at Montrose House, but now, thanks to the Channel 9 Program the Today Show, the rest of Australia knows him and our small little village of Canowindra too!
Amy Clements and cameraman Murray McCloskey from Channel 9 in Orange, visited Canowindra last Thursday to film a piece for the Weekend Today Show that aired over the weekend. Amy and Murray from Channel 9 are both based in Orange and have been doing feature pieces on the Central West to give people a slice of what life is like in regional NSW and the fabulous characters around the region to encourage travelling within regional NSW.
Tommy Jeffs has long been a local staple of the community, bringing a welcome buzz to the town through his colourful drag performances and incredibly generous spirit. Over the years Tommy has raised more than $1M for local charities and community groups and at the start of 2020 was awarded an OAM for all his hard work.
Since the COVID-19 pandemic hit Tommy has been entertaining the masses via his Facebook page by either singing songs dressed as Cher, Frank Sinatra, Liza Minelli, his alter ego Miss Tallulah or by dressing up as a Drag Queen or a Cowboy to take the bins out! He now has a global fan base and really is the beating heart of Canowindra.
His contagious, positive personality is great for our small village of Canowindra!
