Local food and wine lovers have reason to rejoice, with the announcement that the Canowindra@home committee has reformed, to continue fostering a love of local food and wine in our region.
Following the enormous growth of the local wine region in the 1990’s, local producers passionate about driving our region forward, formed Canowindra@home.
Tasked with the promotion of a young wine region, the group hosted the first of many successful 100-mile dinners in 2009, focussing on the abundance of quality produce available within 100 miles of Canowindra.
“We are still supporting the hundred mile food concept and local producers,” said Jes’Se Rushby, Secretary of the invigorated Canowindra@home group.
“We are also offering financial support and scholarships to young Canowindra people training in food and hospitality.”
Earlier this month, Canowindra@home was a proud sponsor of the Canowindra High School’s Hospitality Inter-Schools cooking competition, which attracted hospitality students from across the region.
“The staff in the hospitality department at Canowindra High School’s passion for a good food education was evident. They have equipped the students with the skills, knowledge and enthusiasm to create amazing dishes and coffees,” continued Jes’Se.
With Canowindra@home’s sponsorship, the students received prizes to help encourage a lifelong passion for creating beautiful food and coffee.
Canowindra@home is on the look-out to support individuals or community events that showcase local produce or develop skills in hospitality or a food and beverage related industry. If this sounds like you, Canowindra@home would love to hear from you.
Canowindra@home meet on the second Thursday of the month at the Canowindra Services Club from 6pm. The next meeting is on 9 October. For further information contact Jes’Se Rushby on 0419 920 603 or email canowindraathome@gmail.com.
