The victorious Canowindra cricket team.
Canowindra have won the Oilsplus Molong Cricket Association Premiership defeating Millthorpe by 7 wickets before a good crowd at Tom Clyburn Oval in Canowindra last Saturday 14 March. The Grand Final win tops off a wonderful season for Canowindra after they recently also claimed the Association’sTwenty20 Trophy.
Millthorpe won the toss and elected to bat.
Despite losing an early wicket the visitor’s looked to build a big total with a good partnership between Peter Heller and James Milner. However when Heller went for 30 and the score 2 for 55, Millthorpe then collapsed losing their remaining 8 wickets for just 20 runs. All out for 75, with James Milner running out of partnership, left stranded on 30no. Millthorpe’s last five batsman all recording ducks.
In reply Canowindra got the wobbles briefly losing three early wickets but Sam Austin and Brendan Traves steadied the innings. Both batsman remaining not out guiding Canowindra to a 7 wicket win in just the 14th over. Traves 31no and Austin 18no.
Pat Tree was as usual Millthorpe’s best, taking 2 wickets for 30 and Pat Joice with 1 for 23.
Well done to the Canowindra team on taking three straight premierships. Congratulations to Canowindra’s Ben Schaeffer on winning Grand Final Player of the Match for the second Grand Final in a row. Ben took 8 for 32 from his 10 overs, taking the match away from Millthorpe. Thank you to the umpires Nick Cooper and Alan Hubbard and to Major Sponsor Oilsplus.
