What a weekend for the Canowindra Tigers with the juniors kicking off with a win at Eugowra against Grenfell finishing 26 to 20. With scoring in the last two minutes, the Tigers won their game convincingly at Trundle, 32 points to four. First grade faced Trundle on home ground for the first time in many years, in a hard-fought game of bush footy finishing 24 points to 20.
Trundle were the first to score and lead four nil early on. The Tigers made too many errors, giving Trundle good field. They gained their composure and put on a good play, down to the pick of George LoLo, to score near the post. Logan Harris converted to lead 6-0.
This was followed up with a great play to the short side, with Lawrence Earsman combining to offload to Ned Stevenson, who was able to beat the fullback to score under the post. With a successful kick, the Tigers lead 12-4.
Trundle hit back with two quick tries, one was an intercept and another, a misread in defence before the break, for Trundle to lead 16-12.
This made a great set up for the second half, with the Tigers defence setting up the win, scoring two tries to one. Tigers scored next to the post, moving the score to 18-16. The Tigers shared the workload and with the loss of Brydon Hughes and a few positional changes, the boys were hanging tough. Finally, Jonico Hardwick scored and Burns converted to lead 24 -16. Trundle scored with seven minutes to go and Tigers mounted a great defence to hold Trundle and go on to win in a great contest.
