Canowindra Tigers had a solid win on the weekend against Cargo to the tune of 46 points to 4. It was a tough match and the score didn’t really indicate the closeness of the game. Cargo were putting a lot of pressure on the Tigers defence and were unlucky not to score a few more points.
The Tigers got on the board after 12 minutes for a good try to Lewis Dwyer playing in the Centres. Shortly after George Lolo scored for the Tigers to lead 8-0. It wasn’t until later in the game on the 29th minute Nick Curtis scored from a good backline movement out wide. The next set of six, Ryan Clarke scored under the posts backing up from a line break and Brown converted to make it the halftime score of 18-0.
During the second half of the match, the Tigers had more urgency in attack and from the break found Nathan Whatman to score near the post. Brown converted the score and led 24-0. George Lolo scored his second try for the Tigers. Cargo posted a four pointer that took the score to 28-4.
The Tigers were in control for the last 20 minutes with tries to Brenton Clements and Aaron Earsman which were converted by Matthews. Shortly after, Callum Clyburn scored from a beautiful back-line movement. Just before full-time Janico Hardwick, returning from an injury, showed his class to score the last four pointer of the day for the Tigers to finish 46-4. Players Player went to Jayden Brown.
The Juniors lost their play maker Bailey Kennedy in the first half with a broken leg. This disjointed their attack and they couldn’t gain any momentum going down to Cargo 26-12.
League Tag had a big win over Cargo with 64-12. The best and fairest was awarded to Maddie Brooks scoring 3 tries for the day. It was a strong performance from the Tigeresses.
This week we play on Saturday against Oberon and the Juniors take on Molong. Juniors at 12.20pm, first grade kick-off at 1.30pm and league tag at 3pm.
