Canowindra Tigers notched another win defeating Grenfell 58-24 last Sunday.
It was two from two with the league tag also winning 24-12 in very entertaining game.
This consolidates the league tag girls in fourth place only one point behind Cowra who they play next week on Saturday and a win there will advance them into third position.
LEAGUE TAG
The girls were much sharper in facets of the game last weekend and it was a pleasure to watch the ball movement and scrambling defense. Lilly Bannon had a great game scoring a try, kicking four goals and setting a couple. Laura price scored two tries, outpacing the opposition with her speed and deceptive movements to run through the defense. Adison Newcombe always dangerous around the ruck, also scored a try to seal the game for the Tigeresses.
Maddie Barret had her usual strong game. Lydia Wythes had a strong game with many valuable runs and sharp defense and looked as despite this being her first season, looked as though she has been playing in this grade some time. All the players were on their game and contributed well.
FIRST GRADE
Dylon Slattery had a blinder last weekend, constantly worrying the Grenfell’s’ defense resulting in two tries, one in 13th minute and the other 61st minute. Dylon had many line breaks with his powerful running, which set it up for the Tigers to score off the back of his runs. Tyrone started the day well with his first try in Tigers colours, taking Tigers to an early lead 6-0. Lawrence and Cooper were solid in the middle and Gaeta strong on the edges. The Tigers lead 24-12 at the break.
Grenfell hit back early the second half to close the gap to only 6 points. The return of the Marinda boys strengthened the bench and had a strong influence on the game.
Kennedy in the backs also put pressure on Grenfell, starting at half than moving back to fullback he kicked nine goals and scored two tries, one the length of the field from a bomb and split Grenfell’s defense to score with a game total of 26 points.
Dine also scored a runaway try in the 58th minute to cap off good game. Ricky Whitton had his game for the Tigers with smart play at half, kicking a 40-20 and directing play. Sam Neal finished off a great day with a try from a Kennedy cross field kick for the third week in a row right on full time. Luke Watt was tenacious all day and never far from the ball, resulting in a try in the 64th minute.
Next week is at Cowra on Saturday and with all players available to train this week, an upset could be on the cards.
