Canowindra juniors had an 18 all draw against Grenfell. This was a scrappy game of football and either team, at any time could’ve gained the upper hand to win the match. Canowindra opened the scoring after one minute through Cooper Scifleet and converted by Ethan Burling to take an early lead 6-0. Grenfell hit back shortly after with a converted try to lock the scores up at 6 all.
Try to Tommy Turner in the 15 minutes gave Canowindra the lead 12-6 this being a half time score.
Canowindra boys gave Grenfell too much ball in the second half by not controlling the ball.Toby Fisher scored for Canowindra in the seventh minute, converted by Ethan to go to 18-6. Grenfell scored in the ninth minute when the Tigers failed to control the ball, letting Grenfell back into the game.
Up 18-10. Halfway through the second half Grenfell for scored another try which was converted to make the score 18-16. Just on the strike of full time Grenfell was awarded a penalty 10m out from Canowindras line in front of the post, which was converted by McFarlane to lock the scores up at 18-18.
League TagThe Tigeressess won this game convincingly but had to work for every try. Although it was Grenfell to open the scoring to 4-0, the Tigeressess went to the lead with a try to Laura Price under the post and converted by Indigo Heard 6-4. Laura Price scored again just on half time converted again by Indigo to lead 12-4 at the break.
Laura and Indigo added to their tally minutes into the second half to lead 18-4.
Canowindra continually putting pressure on the oppositions defence had worked
deep into their territory and only metres out Maddy Barrett scooted down the blind side to core in the corner which was converted by Hayley White from the sideline. Leading 24-4 the Canowindra girls kept up the pressure for Kathy Davis to score and shortly after, her daughter Georgia scored in the closing minutes for the final score 32-4.
First Grade: Competition LeadersThe Tigers were dominant in this game against Grenfell finishing winners 70 points to 10, but it was Grenfell who opened the scoring for an early lead, but it wasnt long before Tigers captain coach, Ronnie Lawrence evened up the score. The double of 8 and 12, former President Andrew Whatman.
Nathan Whatman crossed twice with running good lines and late in the half from slick back line movement for Josh Cooney using great footwork to score under the post 20-4.
Ryan Clarke, celebrating his birthday, scored his first try shortly after the break and converted by Toots to go to 26-4. Grenfell hit back with a try to Ty Asg, converted to narrow the score to 26-10. With 30 minutes left in the match it was all the Tigers with tries to Clarke, Cooney, Lawrence, Toots and on debut, Hugh Breen. Further tries went to Logan Harris, John Talauga.
Grenfell really feeling the pitch in fitness had trouble handling the Tigers attack. The feature of the day was great barging runs from Wally Gaeta, earning him the best and fairest and players player, two points went to Ronnie Lawrence and one point to Eli Reid, who was menacing to the opposition.
Long time sponsor Johnny Lawrence also celebrated his birthday on Sunday.
Next week the Tigers travel to Eugowra which should be an entertaining game.
