Canowindra Tigers hosted Trundle last Sunday, and it was the most entertaining game of rugby league in sometime. With ANZAC Day coming up this Thursday, prior to kick-off, the last post was played and a one minute silence was observed in remembrance for the Anzacs, followed by a one minute silence for Logan Harris as his father passed away recently as well as Woodbridge Cup life member Harry Houghton who passed away.
Woodbridge Cup is usually not known for a defensive score line in most games, but this one begs the differerence with Trudle and Tigers having a 10 all draw. There was nothing between the teams in the match with great defence from both sides. Canowindra led 6-4 at the break and the score remained unchanged until late in the second half when Trundle’s classy little Hooker went under the sticks for Trundle to lead 10 points to 6.
Canowindra had a chance to increase their leading mid-way through the second half with a penalty, but elected to take the tap, which may have proved costly for the Tigers.
The Tigers could’ve stretched their lead through Ryan Clarke, who looked like he scored under the post, only for it to be called back for a forward pass. Shortly after, Eli Read looed to have forced his way over the line but it was ruled to be held up.
In the dying minutes of the game Zac Hunt forced his way over to lock the scores up at 10 all with the kick to come, but unfortunately Canowindra weren’t able to convert.
JUNIORS
The Juniors had a great game against Blayney with a thrilling 15-14 win from a last-second field goal by Ethan Burling. This was a close game all the way through with both sides throwing everything at one another. The junior’s competition is shaping up to be one of the best in sometime.
LEAGUE TAG
The Canowindra Tigresses’s are proving to be a force this season with another strong win over Trundle 24-14. It was all Canowindra in the first half, showing all their skills to hold solid lead at the break 18-6. In the second half, the Tigressess headed back in go-through-the-motion mode and Trundle hit back with two tries to their fullback, giving her a triple for the match. Canowindra hit back with a try to Laura Price giving her four for the match.
It was a great day of rugby league for the Tigers winning three grades. The raffle was was won by Damien White.
