Tigers have dropped out of the semi-finals losing in a tough match against Grenfell 28- 24. The Tigers had their chances but failed to capitalise especially in the opposition 20 metre zone.
Canowindra started the game well and looked to be gaining control of the match and led 6-0 early with Murray forcing his way over. Grenfell hit back with 3 converted tries, 18-6. The Tigers fought back with a try just before half time when Brydon Hughes ran onto a good pass from the halves to narrow the score to 18-12.
Grenfell scored first in the second stanza after the Tigers showed good scrambling defence only to concentrate on Grenfell’s last tackle to let them in the corner. Grenfell holding onto a 10 point lead looked confident but the Tigers fought back with Tafuo scoring a try which was converted to narrow the lead to 4 points.
With 3 minutes left Semesi scored from a rubber from Burns which was converted but Grenfell still lead 28-24.
It was a disappointing way to go out but the boys can be proud of their effort as no one gave in and when they controlled the ball Canowindra looked the better team.
The League Tag Tigresses didn’t fare any better than first grade going down to a much improved Condobolin side and their defence on the day was impregnable. The girls had a much improved year and the score of 32-10 is no indication of the talent they have.
