Newcrest Orange Challenge
Canowindra is set to receive an influx of visitors next September, after the Bicycle Network’s Newcrest Orange Challenge cycling event was locked in for Sunday, 12 September 2021.
Up to 1,500 participants and supporters are set to descend on the region for the event, which is routed between Canowindra and Orange.
Previously held in March, next year’s event will be moved to September, due to a clash in Bicycle Network’s 2021 schedule.
However, Bicycle Network expects that the change of dates will see higher numbers of visitors to Canowindra, contributing more to the local economy.
“The new event date means the bike community doesn’t have to pick and choose which region they visit for a cycling event in 2021 and spreads tourism money further after a tough 2020,” Bicycle Network General Manager of Events Rebecca Lane said.
The event will feature three ride distanes of 70km, 100km and 170km that travel through Mandurama, Canowindra and Cargo. Next year’s event will be the fifth edition of the Newcrest Orange Challenge which was first held in 2016.
