Callum Clyburn is 21 years of age and is a much loved and respected Canowindra local. He is also a very talented athlete, playing for the Canowindra Tigers and competing at representative levels in rugby league since he was a child.
In June this year, Cal was handed the fight of his life. A testicular cancer diagnosis immediately put his football commitments and full-time apprenticeship on hold to begin chemotherapy and treatment which includes travelling hundreds of kilometres to attend specialists appointments, scans and for his life saving treatment.
The Canowindra Tigers, Cal’s family and our community have rallied together to put on a ‘Sportsman’s Benefit Night’ this Friday, 1st November as well an ‘Online Auction’ which went live on Monday night and will be open until 11am Saturday, 2nd November. All money raised will help ease the financial burden so that Callum can focus on getting through his treatment in a positive mind frame.
Winner of The Canowindra Phoenix Footy Tipping Competition for 2019, Peter Buttigieg generously donated his prize which will be part of the major raffle drawn on Friday night. “I was in the Footy Tipping Competition for a bit of fun, so to donate the prize and hopefully make a difference to what is a horrible time for Callum and his family is the least I could do,” said Peter.
Tickets to the Sportsman’s Benefit Night were sold out within 24 hours however there are still ways you can support Cal. The Online Auction is still running and there is also an account set up where donations can be made. Visit Cal’s Sportsman’s Benefit Night on Facebook for all the details.
