The first meeting of the Canowindra Pre-School Kindergarten was held at the Police Boy’s Youth Club Hall on Friday 27th August 1958. The meeting was attended by Madames K Nash, R Bowd, B Ryan, K Callan, R Fletcher, R Worboys, J Hogan, C Malouf and P Forbes.
The meeting was opened by the President Mrs K Nash with a welcome to Mr Doug Boag the President of Canowindra Apex Club. Mr Boag explained at this meeting what part the Apex Club would play in the formation of the Pre-School. He stated that a septic tank,
3 small toilets, 1 large toilet and hand basins would be supplied along with the painting of the hall.
Also at this meeting a general committee was formed to run the Pre-School when the hall was ready and to help with raising money
for toys. It was decided the Pre-School would operate from 2-5pm on a Monday, Wednesday and Friday each week and the fees were set.
The Future is Bright!
Fast forward 60 years and look how far this amazing place for young children has come! 2018 will see the Canowindra Pre-School
Kindergarten Inc celebrate 60 years of service to the Canowindra community by hosting a Diamond Jubilee with everyone invited to attend. To be held at the Moorbel Hall on Saturday 19th May it is sure going to be a great celebration for everyone who has had something to do with the Pre- School over the past 60 years. With amazing food by Eat Your Greens, Eugowra and entertainment by the great band Nuthin’ 2 Serious it will be a great night.
After looking back through the old records it shows that fundraising has always been a major part of the Pre-School’s life and this Diamond Jubilee celebration will be no different. In the past the Pre-School has held Balls, Bush Dances, Trivia Nights, Fashion Parades, Melbourne Cup Luncheons, Reunion Dinners, Shopping Nights, Movie Nights and even Baby Shows.
After being granted some funds from the government in 2017 the Pre-School has already completed stage 1 of its renovation however needs to raise more money to complete stage 2. Stage 2 will include the construction of a new building to house the administration staff and also provide meeting rooms which will be available for use to the whole community.
Canowindra Pre-School Kindergarten Inc is a not-for-profit organisation run by parents, families and carers for children that attend the Pre-School. Over the last 60 years the Pre-School has grown from being open only half a day per week to five days a week, extending from a one-unit Pre-School to a two unit Pre-School which means providing two class rooms rather than one separating the 3 and 4 year old children.
The service now also offers Outside School Hours Care three days a week and recently added a playgroup on Friday’s for children aged 0-5years.
The current committee and dedicated staff of the Pre-School have been working hard to organise the Diamond Jubilee and are currently seeking donations of any kind for auction items for the night or cash donations to help with the cost of the event.
