In conjunction with International Women’s Day back in March, Clubs NSW awarded four scholarships valued at $10,000 each. Julie Fliedner, who works at the Canowindra Services Club, decided to apply for the scholarship and was shortlisted to 14 applicants out of 50 who were then invited to the Women’s Day event at Hornsby RSL Club in Sydney. Julie flew to Sydney to attend the record breaking event in which 260 people were present. After lunch the winners were announced and Julie was one of the four. “I finished university at 19, I went for a year and decided I didn’t like it so it’s exciting to go back to studying” she said;
“Many women put their careers on hold whilst they have children and raise their family. So the opportunity to study again is very exciting.” The scholarship is part of a future club leaders programme and the course will entitle Julie to a Diploma of Hospitality and once completed will be a 50% credit towards a Bachelor of Hospitality. “I’m really looking forward to it” says Julie; “I’d like to encourage young ladies to look for scholarships and similar things to help boost their careers, there’s a lot out there.” Congratulations Julie!
