This Sunday 11th March will bring 22 League Tag teams from across the greater Western region to Tom Clyburn Oval, Canowindra for a day of high class, high speed ladies football all playing for the prized Western Challenge Trophy.
Mudgee in the east, Condobolin in the west, the might of Dubbo Westside from the North and newcomers to the tournament this year the Tuggeranong Knights from the ACT shows the expanse this tournament covers.
St Pats and Orange Cyms are the raging favourites, both having won multiple times. Eugowra and Cargo will carry the hopes of Woodbridge Cup sides having finished in the top 3 of the regular season. Dubbo Westside are expected to make the final 4 with their typical entertaining play. Parkes have almost made the final twice before just running out of time two years ago, and are desperate for a finals appearance this year. Portland and Kandos are expected to be big improvers from their competition last season.
Tournament Convener Andrew Pull said “I can’t pick a winner. All the sides already mentioned are good, and what about Blayney with speed to burn. Lithgow so close to the final every year, Cowra a great coach and some youth, and don’t forget the hosts Canowindra with new players and training the house down.”
