Canowindra League Tag girls suffered their first loss of the year against the Orange United Warriors, in trying conditions which was very cool and slippery underfoot. The Warriors looked a very slick outfit and at their best to defeat the Canowindra side. The final score being 16 points to 6.
First Grade
With a few positional changes and injuries taking toll from the previous week for the Tigers were on the back foot in the first half against a very committed Orange Warriors team. Orange scored first from the big front rower barging over the line and then shortly after from a good backline movement put their centre in space to dive over the line. Neither of these were converted.
The Tigers started to work together more in defence in a very torrid encounter and at times were putting pressure on the Warriors line. When the Tigers worked themselves into good field position the play broke down giving possession back to the opposition.
The Warriors scored again to stretch their lead to 12 – 0 it wasn’t until right on half time that Nathan Whatman forced his way over to score and Joe treasure to convert to narrow the lead to only six points.
The second half was a different story with the Tigers defence holding strong against the much bigger pack, they move the ball around more, tiring out the opposition and were rewarded with a try to Ky O’Byrne in the corner. The conversion failed to leave the Tigers still trailing 12 points to 10. To play seesaw it up and down the field for a time and from poor discipline from the Warriors gave the Tigers the advantage to put pressure on their line and for Luke Watt the score in the 56 minute which was converted by Joe Treasure, for the Tigers to take the lead 16-12. They remain second on the competition ladder two points behind Cowra and Trundle in third and Manildra fourth only 1 point behind.
Juniors
This game was played in probably the worst conditions for the day after the rain had seized with cool, cloudy, slippery conditons underfoot, and was made by mistakes from both sides through the match. Tigers defence was put under pressure with a player put in the bin in the first half. Tommy Turner scored first for the Tigers in a six minute only for Orange to retaliate in the eight with a try. The Tigers played some good football and Ryan Mckenzie having a great game score right on the halftime bell for the halftime score to be 16 – 12. Into the 50th minute, the Warriors scored an unconverted try to leave 20 points to 12 and looked like they were going to win comfortably. The young Tigers playing with only 12 players hit back with another Try to Tyler in the 57th minute, conversion by Ethan Bowling to trail 20 – 18. Ryan Mckenzie 3 points 2 Jason McCann. Tommy Turner 1.
