Canowindra Junior Cricket

23 March, 2023 By Canowindra Phoenix Editor

This week was the last normal round game of the season. Canowindra went in seeking the win to claim the undefeated minor premiership and the plan came together! Congratulations to the team for finishing the season without a loss. Now onto the Grand Final next week against Cowra Stars.

Skipper Campbell won the toss and elected to bat to avoid the ball becoming a cake of soap, given the morning dew. A smart decision, however, with the damp ground our batters had to work harder to accumulate the runs. Good partnerships and sensible batting resulted in a total of 107. We fielded well again, despite the outfield running quicker we contained the Thunder to 51 runs. Sam Breen with the only wicket and Max Douglass contributed with a run out. Thunder need to be congratulated on the high number of retired batters. It was clear that they valued their wickets as they defended our tight bowling.

Special mention this week to the Cowra Council Grounds / Maintenance staff. The oval would be the envy of any big city curator. The wicket had been given a meticulous pedicure around the edges. Thanks so much for the time and care taken to provide the best possible ground for the kids.

Player of the Match was Fraser Wythes and Team player of the Week was Sam Breen.
