Alex Rice secured the number one spot on the winners podium at the Australian championship.
Alexander Rice (15 years), under the expert tutorage of coach Ernie Shankleton, broke through in the u/17s Hammer throw last Wednesday 15 April, by winning the Australian championship at QSAC in Brisbane.
Alex has placed second on numerous occasions in recent years, but finally achieved the number one spot by throwing the 5kg Hammer to a new PB of 51.02m.
Fresh off the back from a full of week of woodchopping at the Sydney Royal Easter Show, Alex didn’t want to disappoint his coach Ernie, with whom he has been training with for the past eight years.
“It’s a rhythm event, so training regularly is a must. However Ernie allows me to woodchop as it’s a strength event with an emphasis on technique also,” said Alex.
Alex has set himself a new goal now to gain 10kg of muscle and hit the 60m mark before the next major competitions.
