Canowindra High School Senior Boys and Senior Girls soccer were victorious over Canobolas High School in the first round of the State Knockout competition last Wednesday.
The Senior Boys played first with Canobolas dominating most of the first half. The boys defended well and evened the score 1-1 by half time.
The second half Canowindra came out strong with more teamwork, passing and talking among the team. It wasn’t long before the team started to form and two more goals were scored.
Canobolas managed to slip through defence to get another goal in closing the gap. Canowindra tightened their defence to win the game 4-2. Goal scorers were Elih Murphy-Wlison (2), Hudson Izzard (1) and Joe Coady (1).
The Senior Girls were up next and came out strong with Joanna Balcombe smashing one into the back of the net within minutes. The girls worked well together the whole game and came away with a strong win 16-0. Best goal of the day was Josie’s header from a corner kick from Jo and best save of the day was by Julia. Goal scorers were Joanna Balcombe (6), Josie Clements (3), Zali Dunn (2), Alana-Rose Cramer (2), Alana Smith (1), Ashlee Hampton (1) and Claire Wright (1).
Both teams will now progress to the next stage of the State Knock Out competition.
