Canowindra High School has announced its new school leaders for 2021 in a ceremony held at the school last week.
With Year 12 students now finished for the year, only needing to attend school to complete their HSC exams, the leadership roles were officially handed over.
Claire Wright and Jack DeFreitas were named as the new school captains, while Maisie Harrison and Samuel Brand will be the vice-captains, and Darcy Merchant and Toby Besedic will take on the roles of senior leaders.
They will be taking over from current school leaders Santiago Tapim, Julia Wright, Alana Smith, Angus Clark, and Ashlee Hampton.
Principal Neryle Smurthwaite commended her 2020 leadership team, especially due to the impacts of COVID-19.
“This year has been very unusual in terms of school leadership because they haven’t had the opportunities they would normally have,” she said at the special school assembly. “It’s been a pleasure to watch them in the roles that they have had throughout the year.”
“I can assure you all six of those students [new school leaders] will do an amazing job representing our school, and I look forward to working with them next year.”
New female captain Claire Wright told the assembly that she was thankful for the new leadership team selections, and that she was confident they would do a great job in 2021.
