2024 has been a busy and productive year for the Canowindra Garden Club Inc (CGC). Thanks to generous support from both the community and Cabonne Council, who awarded CGC a Community Assistance Program (CAP) Grant, the club have completed several community projects that will help ensure our town remains welcoming to those wholive here, and those just passing through.
Some of the memorable moments and notable achievements of CGC this year include:
Garden Ramble: As part of the 2024 International Balloon Festival activities, the clubs first garden ramble was a resounding success, with up to 150 visitors to each of the 10 open gardens. The Curran family opened the gates to Noojee Lea, and then generously donated all monies raised to the Canowindra Hospital Auxiliary.
Morris Park Signage: Working in collaboration with the Canowindra Historical Society and Cabonne Council, the Morris Park information board details the interesting history of the park, including historic photos. Thank you to Jan Harrison from the Canowindra Historical Society and to Mary Finn from CGC, who’s commitment turned this project into a reality.
Dog Waste Stations: Another successful community collaboration between local dog walkers, Cabonne Council and CGC which resulted in the installation of four Dog Waste Stations, located at Morris Park, Canowindra Showground, Belubula River near caravan park and Canowindra Connections Centre. Cabonne Council and CGC will regularly maintain the waste stations tol help keep our town free and clean of dog waste.
Picnic Table: As part of the awarded Cabonne Council CAP Grant, CGC have installed a recycled plastic picnic table along the bank of the Belubula River, just across from the Canowindra Caravan Park. The picnic table was supplied and installed by Ben Schaefer from Benchmark Buildings who has done a great job. Mid Lachlan Landcare is scheduled to plant additional trees in this area in 2025, which will result in a welcoming place to stop and have a picnic.
Spring Fling Street Stall: Club members donated home grown fruits, veggies and herbs, along with potted annuals and perennials, succulents and bunches of freshly cut flowers from their gardens to raise funds for the club at this year’s Spring Fling on Gaskill Street. It was fantastic to see so many familiar faces come along and support the club, plus many visitors to town who went home with a ‘little something green’ from Canowindra.
The Canowindra Garden Club Inc would like to thanks their incredible members who have volunteered their time and expertise, and also the Canowindra community, who have supported their fundraising efforts and community projects over the past twelve months.
The club would like to give a special mention to the team at Cabonne Council, especially Andrew Jarrett and Ted Ellis who have gone above and beyond in helping CGC achieve these projects which go to benefit the whole community.
