Members from the Canowindra Garden Club Inc recently attended the Garden Clubs of Australia Inc – Friendship Day held at the historic Clifton House & Gardens in Young. The Friendship Day provided a wonderful opportunity for affiliated garden clubs located in South West NSW to come together to celebrate National Gardening Week, share their knowledge and experience, plus have a few laughs.
The event was organised by Helenie Carmody, SW NSW Zone Coordinator at Garden Clubs of Australia Inc with guest speaker Sue Mowle, Director of Zones NSW/ACT. In attendance were members from affiliated Garden Clubs – Cherry Blossom, Cootamundra, Forbes, Grenfell, Temora, Yass, Young and Canowindra.
Clifton House & Gardens was the perfect venue for garden enthusiasts, with 10 hectares of spectacular gardens to ramble, followed by a gourmet buffet lunch held in the beautifully restored 1889 stone barn.
Formed in 1950, Garden Clubs of Australia Inc is a non-profit organisation, which has in excess of 780 affiliated clubs representing more than 52,000 individuals. Their motto is ‘Friendship through gardens’. The clubs are a wonderful place to meet new people with a mutual love of gardening, to share stories and to wander beautiful gardens.
As part of the Canowindra Spring Fling, the Canowindra Garden Club Inc will have a plant stall on Gaskill Street, outside IGA, this Saturday 26 October from 8am till 12pm. Come along and say hello, maybe buy a plant or two (you can never have too many).
