Parliamentary Secretary for Western NSW Rick Colless and Nationals Candidate for Orange Kate Hazelton, last Friday announced the NSW Liberals and Nationals will be granting the Committee for the Canowindra District Community Bank funding for a feasibility study.
“The NSW Liberals and Nationals are giving the Committee of the Canowindra District Community Bank $17,000 for this study to investigate options for banking facilities in the region,” Mr Colless said.
“This is great news for the Canowindra community and for the whole region. Funding such as this boosts business in our communities and supports regional growth.”
“The funding will be used for a feasibility study which has been conducted through a survey of between 200-300 local people to ascertain their thoughts on the bank and what it means to them.”
“You’ll be seeing regional communities from Boorowa to Cowra and to Blayney benefit from this bank– it won’t just be in Canowindra. We are looking forward to seeing the results of this study and understand how important it is to have access to banking in the bush,” said Kate Hazelton.
Cheryl Newsom, Chairperson of the Canowindra District Community Bank Steering Committee said that the community will welcome this funding with open arms.
“This is fantastic news and I can’t wait to get started on the next stage of this project and hear feedback form the community on how a new bank in the community would benefit them,” Ms Newsom said.
“Currently we have $790,000 of pledges on the books, of a target of $800,000 and approximately $12 million of business on the books. The target for this is between $15 million to $20 million.”
“I’d like to thank the NSW Government for delivering this grant and for the work they are doing in our community and across regional NSW,” said Ms Newsom.
