In 2018 the Canowindra branch of the Country Education Foundation (CEF) was established. The aim is to provide financial assistance and support to help rural and regional youth. The CEF can help students achieve their post high school education training and vocational aspirations by giving them access to grants, scholarships, support services and resources.
This year the Canowindra CEF gave out scholarships to 15 well deserving applicants.
Over $23,650 was given out to support them in their chosen fields, which include Aerospace Engineering, Shearing, Molecular Biology, Forensic Science, Nursing, Veterinary studies, Childcare and Psychology, just to name a few! The CEF are very proud of all the applicants and wish them all the best for their studies.
The Scholarship money the CEF provides comes from fundraising efforts around Canowindra. In 2018 the CEF ran the inaugural “Cano Mocs and Docs” – a short film competition based around STEM ideas.
The major sponsors for this event were Newcrest Cadia Valley Operations and Cabonne Council. The CEF are again hoping to raise money from a film night to be held on the 12th October, 2019 with this year’s signature item being “wave”. Entries are now being accepted so start creating! Go to https://filmfreeway.com/CanoMocsand-Docs2804-1. Entries close 15th September.
This year the CEF are also hoping to raise revenue from a Rugby Charity Day. So dust off your boots and get involved in a community event.
The CEF are very grateful to last year’s sponsors and supporters – Canowindra Players, Canowindra@home, Masonic Lodge of Canowindra, Boorowa CEF, Age of Fishes Museum, Windowrie Estate, Rosnay Estate, Oli Statham PA Hire and The Royal Hotel Canowindra.
